As we know that, there are dozens of themes out there we can use to make our wordpress-based blog looks nice. But, it will not gives us a freedom to fully customized them at all. Usually free blog template/themes are always brought to you by some term and condition. And the most common is a prevention for you as the user to edit the links at the footer. It was forbidden and if you try to edit it without permission or buying the license is included into a crime.

Yeah, it was a good idea i think, to always give links to the creator of themes that we use. Just a thanks, for their good job and give ‘em better position in front of search engine eyes. But does it still a good idea if they force us, the user, to not edit it anymore. Just like them, who need link to keep or maybe increase their PR, or give an affiliate links. Do we have no right to use our own footer, that coming from site we maintain day and night? I guess not, we have that right I think, what ever condition is, our site is ours, they can’t buy whole of our site because we just using their creation.

But, what I said is allowed in some conditions, I don’t want to fully forgetting the designer effort to make a good themes. In a condition that we have just make a customization at the theme, so that it is not a ‘virgin’ theme like from the creator. I hate that we just using it, without adding or modifying anything but we change the whole footer links. The other condition is when we add more links, we still have to keep the links, minimally we left one.

Just what I did at this theme, I have edit the footer links, but there also some edits you will find, the color schemes, right sidebar, description font size, post-hover condition and also the page that previously don’t have a comments box.

Obviously, I was not comfortable to do it. But what else I can do, if I don’t have any time to create a new theme for my own site. But I need to do it for our best. It can be a win-win solution according me.
